In Sri Lanka, thermal generation at Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has reached 70% with a sharp drop in cheap hydro generation due to dry weather, The Island Jan. 13.
According to official data, CEB on Jan. 7 generated 69.9% of its daily 32.5 gigawatts from thermal sources with hydro at 27.9%, the newspaper said.
IPPs generated 15.1 GWh or energy on Jan. 7, with CEB’s own thermal plants generating 7.58%, the paper said.
In addition, The Island reported that a second coal plant in Sri Lanka is expected to be commissioned in the next few months.
